Northampton High School

Project name: Northampton High School
Location: Northampton
Contractor: Sayes and Co Ltd

Sayes and Co Ltd were awarded a new-build project on behalf of the Department of Education (DfE), utilising the Modern Methods of Construction (MMC1) framework.
The £3bn MMC1 framework was introduced by the DfE in January 2020, it aims to be the next step in the evolution of offsite construction of school buildings and builds upon earlier component design approaches to offsite construction.

Northampton School is a new 8FE secondary school. This school used the MMC1 Lot 1 modular framework, intended for larger projects with floor areas exceeding 6000m2.
This £27.6m project consisted of a two-storey building incorporating various teaching spaces, sports halls, a commercial kitchen and some outdoor football pitches.
Sayes and Co Ltd selected Albion Valves (UK) Limited as their valve supply partner for the project, the systems within the building which utilised Albion’s range of valves included MCW, DHW, LPHW, and Gas.

Albion supplied various valve types for the plant room, ceiling voids, and risers to ensure closed system control, including ball and butterfly valves for isolation and flanged and press FODRVs to ensure appropriate balancing of the system at the testing and commissioning stage.

Matthew Tatler, the Design Manager at Sayes and Co Ltd, comments: “Northampton Schools is a flagship project for Sayes in terms of educational projects given the project value and physical building size. With this in mind, combined with our high expectations and responsibilities to perform for our good client the DfE we made the executive decision to partner with Albion Valves on this project due to their proactive approach, excellent customer service and product reliability.

As expected, their swift responses during the design stage and prompt delivery timescales streamlined this element of the project for us. Big thanks again to the Albion Team for their efforts from the onset.”

Dan Crosswaite, Albion’s Sales Director, comments: “We are pleased to have secured another prestigious project alongside Sayes and Co. This project demonstrates Albion’s cradle to grave approach, the early engagement from our in-house technical department and the design team at Sayes and Co ensured a smooth and efficient delivery of product via Sayes and Co’s selected distribution partner.”
